From Pain to Purpose: Andrew’s Story
In 2019, I attended a Recovery Week hosted by The Allender Center in Seattle, Washington.
Up until this point in my life, I struggled with anxiety, my calling, and the sexual abuse I experienced in my childhood.
Collectively, these issues robbed me of joy and my ability to hope and love others well. I came away from that week for the first time feeling hopeful.
I was able to begin to put language to what happened to me as a child and how it impacted my adult self. I was instantly drawn to Story Work because it gave me a window into how God designed me and what I was called to be.
For the past three years, I have undergone training in Narrative-focused Trauma Care with the privilege of walking alongside a host of other beautiful and imperfect people.
Along the way, I have continued to work on my own story and learn to facilitate others’ stories. What I have learned has impacted how I love my wife better, challenged me to interact with my coworkers in a healthier way, and allowed me to dream and hope.
I love seeing hope and love flourish amongst our brokenness and how God’s love continues to show up in amazing ways.
If you’re curious about Story Work and whether it might be helpful to you, let’s set up a time to talk.
